Originally constructed as the Driftwood Motel in the early 1960s, the property was part of the proliferation of hospitality options along the Gulf Coast as New Orleanians looked for the nearest coastal getaway. 

For the most part, the hotel remained in operation over the years, but really began a decades-long e in thBe early ‘90s. For years policing activities at the hotel was the bane of local law enforcement.

 In late 2023, a local investor group realized the potential and true necessity for a redevelopment. Located essentially at the corner of Main Street and US Hwy 90, the motel serves as the entry to historic  Old Town Bay St. Louis when coming from the West.

The time was right for a re-investment into the hotel that was home to so many memories of a bygone era. The hotel was purchased and underwent a major renovation that sought to modernize and refurbish that classic motor court motel charm of its heyday.   

The original 1961 Driftwood Motel sign had the tagline “Free TV ◦ Pool ◦ Tel.”  Today it reads as “Free TV ◦ Pool ◦ Wifi” as a nod to the past, and a reluctant admission that we’ll accept some change, albeit slowly.
